大作文次重点

1. There have been many inventions in the human history, such as the wheel. Some people think the most important thing is the internet. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?(人类历史上有许多发明,比如轮子。有些人认为最重要的是互联网。你在多大程度上同意或不同意这个观点?)

There have been many truly revolutionary advances in technology which have profoundly changed the course of human history. While perhaps the most significant of these is traditionally considered to be the wheel, I agree with those who believe that the internet is the most important invention of all time.

The greatest impact of the internet is the instant transmission of knowledge that it has made possible. As a result, the old ways of studying and working have been made obsolete. Whereas the wheel was a technological breakthrough in transforming transport, the internet has allowed people to pass on information and ideas across the world. In education, computer literacy enables young people to access the internet, and the virtual classroom is becoming a reality, with the college intranet and the use of the internet to deliver lectures. The internet has also revolutionised communication in business, with the growth of e-commerce and online shopping. Enterprises increasingly communicate with staff and clients through video conferencing.

A second significant breakthrough for which the internet is responsible is in transforming the way that people communicate in their social lives. One obvious example, of course, is the phenomenal growth in popularity of social networking sites. There are currently about 2 billion active users of Facebook, and such sites are still in their infancy. Thanks to the internet, more and more people are able to share what their friends and family are doing, and they can keep abreast of the news about what is happening in the world from many sources. Governments find it difficult to control and censor the content of what is posted on the internet.

In conclusion, as nothing is more fundamental than sharing knowledge, I would argue that the internet is the greatest of all inventions to date.

2. Developments in technology have brought various environmental problems. Some believe that people need to live simpler lives to solve environmental problems. Others, however, believe technology is the way to solve these problems. Discuss both views and give your opinion.(科技的发展带来了各种各样的环境问题。一些人认为人们需要过更简单的生活来解决环境问题。然而,其他人认为技术是解决这些问题的方法。讨论双方观点并给出你的观点。)

It is true that certain advances in technology have had negative impacts on the environment. While there are strong arguments that some environmental problems should be tackled by adopting simpler lifestyles, I believe that the solutions lie in technologies that have been and are being developed.

On the one hand, enjoying life with less sophisticated technology means that people inflict less damage on the ecosystems on which all living things depend. Firstly, people consume energy through overuse of devices such as air-conditioning, water heaters and the private car. If they decrease their energy consumption, this will reduce the emission of greenhouse gases, but this will certainly involve leading simpler lives. Secondly, organic farmers do not pollute the water or the soil which results from the application of chemical fertilisers and weedkillers. They encourage a diversity of plants and wildlife on their farms.

On the other hand, I agree with those who argue that technological achievements play a pivotal role in environmental protection. One reason is that the use of renewable energy sources is already starting to grow. This raises the prospect of decreasing dependence on fossil fuels, cleaner air and the reversal of the trend of global warming. Countries such as Japan are leading the way, for example, in developing more eco-friendly cars, buses and lorries. Another reason is that cleaner technologies, such as waste treatment, are being introduced into many industries, and technology is enabling plastics and other products to be recycled.

In conclusion, although living simpler lives can certainly help in tackling environmental problems, it seems to me that advances in technology are already providing many solutions and this trend will gather pace in the future.

3. Scientists predict in the near future cars will be driven by computers, not people. Do you think it is a positive or negative development? Why?(科学家预测,在不久的将来,汽车将由电脑而不是人来驾驶。你认为这是一个积极的还是消极的发展?为什么?)

It is true that advances in technology have led scientists to suggest that it will not be long before computers will be driving cars. I believe that the consequences will be wholly positive.

Scientists have good reasons to believe that computer-driven cars will soon become the norm. The first computer- driven cars have been built and the technological breakthrough achieved. Already, satellite navigation systems guide many drivers to their destinations, using sophisticated software that can incorporate information about traffic congestion and delays. Thus, computers speed up journey times and ease traffic flow. It is therefore reasonable to anticipate that computers will soon assume all the functions of the human motorist. The principal benefit of driverless vehicles will be a reduction in the number of deaths and injuries on the roads.

The majority of accidents are the result of human error or irresponsibility, including such reckless behaviour as speeding and driving while intoxicated. If the control of vehicles were computerized, the roads would be safer for everyone, including cyclists and pedestrians. There would also be no need for local or national authorities to apply road safety measures, such as the installation of speed cameras or traffic calming.

A second major advantage will be to enable more people to use cars. At present, in many countries such as the UK, in order to adhere to the law, learners have to undergo extensive training and sit a rigourous test before they become qualified drivers. For the elderly and those with some physical disability or mental health problems, such as anxiety, a car driven by a computer will be an extremely beneficial application of leading-edge technology.

In conclusion, I would argue that technological achievements will result in fully-computerized cars and this should be welcomed universally as a positive development.
